If you are looking at learning how to windsurf, India is definitely one of the windsurfing destinations to consider. The east coast of India tends too have a stronger & a longer wind season than the west coast.
THINGS TO REMEMBER BEFORE STARTING WINDSURFING
Start your windsurfing journey with modern equipment categorised for beginners. We cannot stress enough about the importance of using the right gear for the level your are at. Beginner boards are large in size & very buoyant giving you plenty of room to make mistakes before tipping over. Learn with an experienced instructor, no blogs or videos can replace hands on instruction. Choose the location & instructor wisely after doing thorough research. Be patient, it takes time to get things right but when you do you’ll be hooked. Here are a few things to consider before you start your journey with windsurfing:
Do you swim?
It is important to know how to swim before you start learning windsurfing. Even if you are planning to stay in shallow waters - learn how to swim & be comfortable in the ocean. If you are a pool swimmer & nervous about the ocean, reach the destination a day before your windsurfing course & your instructor can get your comfortable in the water.
Safety First
There are no shortcuts, trying to learn on your own will make it really hard in the long run. Use books, blogs & videos to complement you're learning with an experienced instructor. It is important to build your knowledge before heading out to the beach for your own safety as well as others.

Always wear a PFD, Helmet & Whistle
Have a safety boat on call
You will progress quickly in the beginning if you have the right equipment & instructions. Choose your windsurfing destination wisely.
I have been sailing regularly for the last 3 years. Last year I decided to learn a form of sailing that was a little more extreme. Windsurfing is built on the foundation of sailing but the vessel is a board and not a boat! While you still catch the wind & go fast the board makes you feel every ripple on your feet while you hold on tight with all your strength. The mast is fixed on a universal joint that allows it to swivel freely & the sailor holds on to the boom to control the sail.
