Deep South Trilogy 2018

EVENT BRIEF

The Deep South Trilogy 2018 is an event organised to encourage athletes in professional water sports. The categories of sports are 1. Kayak Race 2. SUP Race 3. Windsport Races as well as other competitions like Swimming, Beach Volleyball, etc.

In the current year’s competition over 94 athletes have registered for various categories from all over India. Participants from Rameswaram, Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin, Chennai, Madurai, Mumbai, Pune, Cochin & Bangalore. The age of athletes is between 18 to 34 years & practice sessions were organised by Quest Expeditions Pvt Ltd. and Holy Island Watersports with the support of the District Administration. As well as other supportive organisations like Tourism Department, District Sports Authority, Fisheries Department, Coastal Security Group, Indian Coast Guard & other supportive organisations.

There will be a special category of Kayak race for Fishermen students who are being trained in a two month tuition program sponsored by the Fisheries department. Students have been practicing all week and are looking forward to the races. Exposure to professional sports and races helps build strength, character and team spirit while creating various employment opportunities for youth in the tourism, sports & hospitality industry.

For the SUP (Stand Up Paddle) races we have a celebrity Mr. Sekar Pitchai from Covelong, Chennai who has represented India in International Surfing Association (ISA) events in Fiji, Dubai, Denmark & Singapore. Sekar is a fisherman from Chennai who is now an International Athlete representing India in competitions worldwide. Sekar will be spending time with all the athletes during the event sharing his story & encouraging them to participate in more events in the future.

The coastline of Ramanathapuram district has very good natural conditions for conducting training in sports as well as hosting competitions.

Rules & Regulations for athletes & participants

The races organised during the event are planned to accommodate maximum participation from trained athletes given the current weather conditions at the event venue.

  • All invitations & registration information is shared by the District Administration & District Sports Office

  • All information is displayed on the website www.Quest-Asia.com/events

  • All participants must know swimming in open waters & be in good physical shape

  • All participants must wear a lifejacket before entering the water

  • Each race category will have pre-final qualification heats

    • There will be upto 5 participants in each heat

    • Before a heat the athlete must announce his name & native place to the judge

    • Athletes must stay behind the start line before the race begins

    • Athletes must follow the rules of the race as the judge announces before each heat

    • All athletes must announce their names & native when they touch the finish line flag

    • After the heat athletes must check with the Judges the time of their next heat/semi/finals

    • It is the responsibility of the athlete to check their event time & location

    • It is the responsibility of the athlete to be aware of all rules & regulations

    • It is the responsibility of the athlete for their well being & safety during the event

    • Athletes can be disqualified for any misconduct on discretion of the judges

  • Rules of the final races will be announced at the start line of the race

  • Any objections have to be made to the judges in writing before the next scheduled race

  • Any redressal to an objection will be discussed by the judges & their decision is final

  • Any loss or damage to equipment or gear will not be a reason to a re-race

 

Kayaking Race Open Category

  • Athletes of any nationality can participate in the open category kayaking race

  • Athletes of any age and gender can participate in the open category kayaking race

  • Maximum 30 athletes will be registered for this category

  • Sit on top kayaks of equal dimensions, weight & manufacture will be provided

  • Paddles of equal dimensions, weight & manufacture will be provided

  • Lifejackets of of equal dimensions, weight & manufacture will be provided

  • The distance of the final race will be 1 km

  • The distance of the heats will be 400 m

 

Kayaking Race Fishermen Category

  • Athletes selected by the Fisheries department shall participate in this kayaking race

  • Maximum 30 athletes will be registered for this category

  • Sit on top kayaks of equal dimensions, weight & manufacture will be provided

  • Paddles of equal dimensions, weight & manufacture will be provided

  • Lifejackets of of equal dimensions, weight & manufacture will be provided

  • The distance of the final race will be 1 km

  • The distance of the heats will be 400 m

 

Stand Up Paddle Race Open Category

  • Athletes of any nationality can participate in the open category SUP race

  • Athletes of any age and gender can participate in the open category SUP race

  • Maximum 30 experienced athletes will be registered for this category

  • Stand up paddle boards of epoxy from same manufacturer will be provided

  • Paddles of equal dimensions, weight & manufacture will be provided

  • Lifejackets of of equal dimensions, weight & manufacture will be provided

  • The distance of the final race will be 1 km

  • The distance of the heats will be 400 m

 

Windsports Race Open Category

  • Athletes of any nationality can participate in the open category race

  • Athletes of any age and gender can participate in the open category race

  • Maximum 30 experienced athletes will be registered for this category

  • The distance of the final race will be 3 km

  • The distance of the heats will be 1 m

  • Equipment will be provided
