5 TIPS FOR SUP BEGINNERS
Get a leash & use it
Leashes help keep the board with you when you capsize & believe us you will.Hold your Paddle the right way
To paddle efficiently you need to make sure the scoop of your paddle is facing in the correct direction to maximise displacement of water. Everyone wants to go fast without wasting much energy!Use your Core
Paddle using your core & not just your arms. All the big muscles are in your back, front & bottom, which can give more endurance than biceps, so use those muscles correctly.Face in the Right direction
Every sup has a front & back side so when you climb on or pop up, face forward with the fins to your back & leash trailing behind. Look out at the horizon, that will help you keep balance & enjoy the paddling.Fall away from the board
Try to push yourself away from the board when you lose balance. That will save you from bumps & nicks. Practice falling before you get out for a longer distance.
Stand up paddle boarding or SUP as it’s popularly called, uses a longboard and a paddle. It’s an easier way to surf waves or paddle the waters. The sport is fun when your balance is challenged by ripples or small waves in the water when you get started. In time it’s all part of the fun.
